{"id":103,"date":"2008-12-26T05:26:59","date_gmt":"2008-12-26T10:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tupps.com\/?p=103"},"modified":"2008-12-31T19:23:08","modified_gmt":"2009-01-01T00:23:08","slug":"stripped-boat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tupps.com\/?p=103","title":{"rendered":"Stripped Boat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well after several ear splitting days the boat has been completely sanded back to either wood or fibreglass.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-104\" title=\"imgp7091\" src=\"http:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7091-300x200.png\" alt=\"imgp7091\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7091-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7091.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the fibreglass was laid on the bottom of the boat the original paint had not been completely removed, so a deep\u00c2\u00a0burgundy\u00c2\u00a0color and white shows through in places. For the record the bottom of the boat had 4 coats of paint, a black automotive paint, then a red paint, a light blue and finally a white paint. On the side of the boat there were 6 coats of paint! Two different coats of red paint on the side, then a light blue that matched the underside, white, then a deeper blue and white again.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-106\" title=\"imgp7094\" src=\"http:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7094-300x200.png\" alt=\"imgp7094\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7094-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7094.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I am not sure how much weight\u00c2\u00a0this saved, but there was a lot of effort to remove the paint. Once the paint was removed the &#8216;scars&#8217; of the boat shows through.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-105\" title=\"imgp7093\" src=\"http:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7093-300x200.png\" alt=\"imgp7093\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7093-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7093.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-107\" title=\"imgp7098\" src=\"http:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7098-300x200.png\" alt=\"imgp7098\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7098-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7098.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is interesting to note that both of these &#8216;injuries&#8217; on the boat are on the starboard side, suggesting that someone didn&#8217;t give way to starboard tackers.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A crack in the starboard gunwale was my fault. Cracked on the decking when getting into the boat.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-108\" title=\"imgp7099\" src=\"http:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7099-300x200.png\" alt=\"imgp7099\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7099-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7099.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally the hole in the side of the boat was cut out and will be replaced with a new piece of plywood.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-109\" title=\"imgp7097\" src=\"http:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7097-300x200.png\" alt=\"imgp7097\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7097-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7097.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once everything was removed from the stern of the boat, it was obvious that a couple of &#8216;problems&#8217; had been covered up.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-110\" title=\"imgp7095\" src=\"http:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7095-300x200.png\" alt=\"imgp7095\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7095-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/tupps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/imgp7095.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can&#8217;t see it from the photo but the pintels had pushed the plywood in, and then the wingnut on the rudder had hit holes on either side. It looks like I either have a choice or replacing the whole back panel, or patch the holes with filler and paint the back of the boat. I have decided to patch and paint the back of the boat.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One last thing on the boat was the self bailers hadn&#8217;t been removed when the bottom was fibreglassed. This wouldn&#8217;t have been a problem if the screws where epoxied tight, unfortunately 6 of the screws turned, and couldn&#8217;t be removed with out digging through the fibreglass.
