Finished Deck
We have finally finished building the deck. The deck was finished a week ago, but work has gotten in the way of blogging.
The deck looks fantastic and the main task left is to seal the deck.
I was really impressed with the final work. The steps edge out over the frame that supports them, and gives a really nice look.
The architectual rigging looks nice as well. The deck is only 500mm from the ground which means that the rigging doesn’t need to meet building standards. To meet building regulations we would need 8 rigging lines instead of just three.
New addition to the blogging world.
In the blogging world there are those who have something worthwhile to say, and then there are those that just blog inane rubbish. Well Alexis has just joined blogging world with the ShwainBlog.
Now with Alexis I beleive that he will fit into the worthwhile to say category rather than the inane rubbish category of blogs. Well at least I think he will, his grand adventure (like all late twenties Australians) to the UK is about to begin and he joined the rest of the smart guys with a new MacBook Pro. So I hope that he will have something purposeful to say in the coming months.
Deck Day 4
Day 4 saw us make it through to the final straight with just a couple of things needed to be done. It doesn’t look like much progress has been made since Day 3, but the decking is all nailed down, the base boards (bits of decking on the sides) have been attached, and the stairs have been cut.
The final day will include: laying 1 board next to the house, attaching the handrail, finishing the stairs, adding the architectual rigging.
Deck Day 3
Day 3
The deck is now actually looking like a deck. All of the decking boards have been cut to length, although at this stage they haven’t been nailed down.
Also the rain has started to encroach on the project, cutting short the work for the day.
Deck Day 2.5
Day 2 didn’t really go to plan with the deck. Unfortunately we hadn’t dug down far enough for the deck. A bit more dirt had to be removed. Well it wasn’t just a little bit of dirt that had to be removed.
While the second day was hampered with a little bit to much time using the shovel, day 3 saw the deck starting to take shape. All of the stucture is now complete, with only the decking, handrail, and steps need to be completed.
Deck building day 1
Here are the photos from the first day of work on the deck. As you can see today, was more about digging down the building up.
The builder, Simon hopes to get the structure built tomorrow, and the deck laid down on Friday. All of his newly dug holes passed a site inspection.
Also note a bit of concrete had to be removed in front of the door (my job).
